A cup anemometer is used to calculate the velocity of wind. The three flat aligned sphere-shaped cups, which are static at right angles or in a stellar form on the perpendicular axis of the cup anemometer, measure the breeze velocity.
It working principle is very simple the resilient the breeze blows, the quicker the partial open plastic cups move. The velocity of the cross revolution regulates the breeze speed.
The cup anemometer measures the numeral of revolutions per minute and thus the breeze velocity very precisely. The breeze velocity can be expediently read out from the LCD show (28 x 19 mm) of the cup anemometer.
The accurate measurement of wind speed is of great importance in meteorological research and
practice, agriculture, transport, shipping, industry, engineering and in many other fields of human
activity. The simplest and most common method of measuring wind speed is by the use of a cup counter
anemometer in which the run of wind in kilometers tenths is indicated directly on a revolution counter.
From the readings of the counter at the beginning and the end of a specified period, either three
minutes or one day, the mean wind speed over the period may be calculated. Anemometer cup counter
is used primarily for measuring the run of the wind over a period of hours or a whole day rather than
over the shorter period required for observation purposes. This instrument is manufactured as per IS:
5912:1970.
Measuring Range: 0 to 1200 meters per minute (approximately 0 to 72 km/h).
